TenCate Geosynthetics is the world’s leading provider of geosynthetics and industrial fabrics.

TenCate Geosynthetics develops and produces materials that increase performance, reduce costs and enable people to achieve the unachievable.

Basal Reinforcement
Basal reinforcement encompasses embankments over soft soils, reinforced embankments on piles and reinforced embankments over cavities. Reinforced embankments are essentially constructed to hold back water, carry a roadway, and generally create an elevated area of land.
TenCate high strength geosynthetics reinforce the shear tresses of the fill material leading to an increase of the foundation bearing capacity. High strength geosynthetics provide a cost effective solution to achieve a greater and quicker stability of embankments constructed on soft foundations.
Basal reinforcement with high strength geosynthetics allow:
- Optimum embankment height over a minimum area
- Steeper side slopes
- Increase in construction speed with no loss of stability
- Resistance to outward movement of the embankment
- Optimisation of load transfer platforms to achieve a greater stability and surface settlement control
- Reinforcement while preventing the collapse of the structure, ensuring the safety of users.

Steepened Slopes & Retaining Walls

TenCate geosynthetics offer effective solution for the reinforcement of slopes and walls thanks to TenCate Miragrid GX geogrids and TenCate Rock® PEC reinforcement knitted geocomposites.
They are used for Mechanically Stabilized Earth structures designed to offer the ideal characteristics of high tensile strength, low elongation and low creep.
TenCate Miragrid GX and TenCate Rock® PEC geosynthetics are suitable for long term reinforcement application
- The polymeric coated flexible structure of Miragrid GX geogrids ensures high interlock and high soil interaction. It is suitable for granular soil used in the reinforcement of slopes and walls.
- Rock® PEC knitted geocomposites combine reinforcement with superior filtration and drainage functionality to enable finer grained soils to be reinforced. The rapid release of pore water along the geotextile significantly reduces horizontal earth pressure and increases structural stability.
- Both solutions are quick & easy to install and allow a wide variety of facing systems. Common applications are wrap around and vegetated facings, steel mesh formwork facings or full height wall facings and segmental block facings.

Subgrade Stabilization

TenCate geosynthetics allow construction over weak subgrades by uniformly distributing the load and improving bearing capacity and providing reinforcement to weak or low strength subgrades. The use of TenCate Geolon® PP as reinforcement, separation and filtration layer offers a simple, quick & cost-effective alternative for this “classic” application of geotextiles in various applications: building site infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, energy and environmental infrastructures.
TenCate geosynthetics key performance in subgrade stabilization are:
- The initial tensile stiffness modulus (at 5%) in Geolon® PP is the key performance property for the reinforcement function
- An effective separation Polyfelt® TS or Bidim® S geotextile requires high permeability to allow rapid dissipation of excess pore pressure built up during wheel load passes. Its combination with a Miragrid GX geogrid allows the subgrade stabilization of a roadway.

Drainage & Filtration

TenCate Polyfelt® & TenCate Bidim® geosynthetics deliver solutions that enhance drainage and filtration in subsurface drainage applications along highways, within embankments, under airfields, in tunnel construction and in landfills. For these drainage structures to be effective, they must have a properly designed protective filter.

Drainage Systems

Drainage & Filtration geotextiles are commonly used in the following drainage applications: edge drains, interceptor ("french" or "burrito") drains, wall drains, recharge basins and relief wells. In these applications, the geotextile should be designed to survive construction, allow the passage of water at high rates, and retain insitu soil (stop piping soils) without clogging.

Permanent Erosion Control

Filtration geotextiles are often used in the following erosion control applications: wave protection for shoreline embankments and causeways; scour protection of various small drainage structures and ditches; and cut and fill slope protection for structures such as bridge piers and abutments. As with drainage installations, these applications require that the geotextile be designed to survive installation, plus allow the passage of water while retaining insitu soil without clogging.

Pavement Réhabilitation

TenCate Polyfelt® PGM & PGM_G products are the ideal optimization for pavement rehabilitation. From large-scale motorway projects to local repair of secondary roads, and from airport runways to storage yards: Our interlayer products provide solutions which will improve the new asphalt overlay by securing a perfect cost-benefit ratio.
Keeping the existing road pavement inventory in a serviceable condition is one of the major challenges of road authorities world-wide. Therefore, the focus of attention is on maintenance techniques and rehabilitation methods which allow the working life of the basic road structure to be extended in a cost effective and technically reliable manner.
One method which has been successfully used world-wide for more than 30 years is the maintenance of asphalt and concrete roads using paving interlayers. This method represents an economical means of considerably increasing the maintenance intervals and thus the working life of the road.

Erosion Control

Erosion control is the practice of preventing or controlling water or wind erosion in land development, coastal areas, inland waterways and site construction.

Ballast Reinforcement

TenCate geosynthetics enhance the performance and the design life of railway construction structures. A TenCate geosynthetic is installed as separation and filter layers in areas where groundwater is a problem.
- Their robust mechanical properties coupled with high water flows capabilities extend the lifetime of the structure.
- In railway tracks, the geosynthetics is placed between the existing course and the ballast layer to prevent the subgrade from pumping into the ballast layer.
- After years of traffic loading, railway structures built on cohesive subgrades frequently suffer from degradation affecting the stability and safety of the tracks:
- AR 20 allows to keep optimum bearing capacities with a simple cleaning of the ballast. Total layers refurbishment can be avoided in many cases. A soft rehabilitation is sufficient for more than 20 years.
