The project to build a complex for the production of aromatic hydrocarbons at the Atyrau Refinery is being implemented within the “Programme for the development of the petrochemical industry of Kazakhstan for 2008-2013”. The project will bring the quality of commercial gasoline up to the level of the Euro-4 standard and improve its environmental performance by reducing the content of benzene in it, and facilitate the production of Euro-4 standard diesel fuel by developing additional volumes of hydrogen. In addition, the introduction of a new complex at the Atyrau Refinery will significantly reduce the plant’s emissions. The Atyrau Refinery is the oldest oil refinery in Kazakhstan, and began operating in September 1945.

China’s Sinopec Engineering has recently begun to create a complex for the production of aromatic hydrocarbons at the Atyrau Refinery. The complex will produce annually 133,000 tons of benzene and 496,000 tons of paraxylene, which serves as a raw material for the production of a huge range of petrochemical products. Some of the benzene and paraxylene will be exported to other countries, and some will serve as feedstock for Kazakhstan’s first integrated petrochemical complex, the construction of which began in the Atyrau region in 2010.

The OilTech Atyrau conference is held each year in Atyrau alongside the Atyrau Oil & Gas exhibition. These are the largest and most important international oil and gas events in Kazakhstan and the Caspian region. The exhibition will be held in Atyrau Sports Complex from 5 to 7 April 2011. The event will bring together about 70 companies from Azerbaijan, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, and Ukraine. To mark the exhibition’s anniversary, it will attended by oil and gas production companies, refining businesses and major service companies, including: KazMunaiGas Exploration Production, Tengizchevroil, NCOC, LUKOIL, «AtyrauNefteMash», «Aktobe plant of non-metallic pipes, JSC», «TD Votkinsky Zavod, JSC», «Blagoveschensk valves plant, JSC», «Plant of piping elements, JSC», «Kroporkinsk Engineering Plant, OJSC», «Uraltechnostroy – Tuimazykhimmash, JSC» and TD «Motovilikhinsky zavodi», «Kharkovmash» and many others.

Exhibits will also be presented by agencies within the Ministry of Oil and Gas of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ministry of Industry and New Technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Central Dispatching Board of the Oil and Gas Industry of Kazakhstan, and Information and Analytical Centre for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
