Over 10 years of their existence, these events have turned into a traditional meeting place for oil and gas industry specialists not only of the Caspian region and Kazakhstan, but of the entire world oil and gas community as well. Atyrau Oil & Gas Exhibition and OILTECH Atyrau Conference have become the main business platform for oil and gas industry professionals in the region.
:: 2011 Statistics:
- Atyrau is the “Oil Capital” of Kazakhstan.
- Atyrau is a member city of the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) which unites 18 “energy cities” around the world.
- Atyrau is the oldest oil and gas producing region in Kazakhstan. As early as 1899, Karashungul Exploration Site in Atyrau Oblast saw the first gush of oil in Kazakhstan.
- Over 75 oil fields are concentrated in Atyrau Oblast, including Tengiz, Kashagan, Aktoty, Kairan, Imashevskoye (on the border with Astrakhan Oblast), Korolevskoye, and many others.
- Reconstruction and refurbishment of Atyrau Oil Refinery.
- Construction of an integrated facility for deep oil processing.
- Construction of an integrated aromatic hydrocarbons production facility.
- CPC Expansion Project construction activities start-up.
- In order to improve transit and export potentials of the country, Kazakhstan-China, Beineu-Shymkent, and Caspian gas pipelines construction projects are implemented.
- Throughput capacity of domestic and export pipelines is improved.
- In 2010, construction of infrastructure of the National Industrial Petrochemical Technology Park Special Economic Zone in Atyrau Oblast was launched.
- An integrated gas and chemical complex will be built in Atyrau Oblast to produce such basic petrochemical products as ethylene, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Project investment is about USD 6.3 billion. Project implementation period is 2010-2015.
- Expansion of TengizChevroil LLP sulphur processing capacity.
2011:

- Service centre to repair and refurbish pumps and control valves

Five investment projects worth KZT 869 million are planned to be implemented under the Industrial and Innovative Development Programme this year.
The Oblast is carrying out large-scale projects with an innovation component.
The implemented projects include expansion of production capacities of TengizChevroil and construction of Agip KCO facilities worth more than USD 10 billion.
Apart from that, the region has identified 20 breakthrough petrochemistry investment projects for 2008-2012 with a total cost of capital investment more than USD 7 billion, which complies with all requirements of the 30 Corporate Leaders of Kazakhstan programme.
These include:
- Construction of the first integrated petrochemical complex
- Construction of a benzene recovery complex and an aromatic hydrogen production complex
- Construction of a block valve production plant
- Expansion of sulphur production
- Construction of a new chemical production plant
- A cellular/aerated concrete production plant
- A sheetrock production plant
- Construction of a steelwork plant
- Construction of a cement plant
- Construction of a plant to repair gas-turbine equipment
- Exploration and production of Tugarakchai groundwater
- Exploration and production of Bali groundwater
- Construction of a standalone petroleum-bitumen plant
- Construction of a solid waste landfill
- Enhancement of the complex for waste disposal management and processing of chemical waste
- Construction of a 90 MW gas-turbine power station in Atyrau
:: Oblast Industrial News
Two new facilities have been commissioned under the Processing Industry Development Programme:
- Rehabilitated brickworks in Isatai District
- Reconstruction of AtyrauNefteMash Machine Works LLP.
:: Investment
Investment in the fixed assets during January through May 2008 made KZT 279.3 billion, or 103.1% against the same period in 2007.
The main sources of capital investment are foreign investments (57.6%) which made KZT 161.1 billion.
